WHY IT MATTERS

DESIGNING FOR HOW YOU USE YOUR YARD

  • One contract for the whole yard

Pavers, turf, patio cover and outdoor kitchen can all be built under one contract.

  • Permits handled

Many patio covers need a permit. We check your city's rules and handle it when one is needed.

HOMEOWNER GUIDE

PLANNING YOUR OUTDOOR LIVING PROJECT

What affects the cost

Size and materials come first. A patio cover's span, height and whether it's attached to the house or freestanding change the structure. Outdoor kitchens vary with the length of the counter, the appliances you choose, and how far gas, water and electrical lines need to run. Site work such as grading, removing old concrete, footings and drainage, and features like lighting, fans and heaters all add to the scope.

Patio covers, pergolas and outdoor kitchens

A solid patio cover gives full shade and rain protection. Lattice or open-beam covers and pergolas filter the light and feel more open. Louvered systems let you adjust between the two. Outdoor kitchens are typically built on a masonry or framed base with a weather-resistant countertop, and can include a grill, side burners, a sink, refrigeration and seating.

Permits, setbacks and fire zones

Many patio covers need a building permit, and gas, electrical and plumbing for an outdoor kitchen typically do too. Cities set how close structures can be to property lines, and HOAs often review designs. Parts of Orange County are in designated fire hazard zones, where California's wildfire building rules can affect materials and construction details.

Designing for the Orange County climate

Mild weather means a well-planned backyard gets used most of the year. Think about where the afternoon sun lands, where the wind comes from and how the space connects to the house. Near the coast, choose materials and fasteners made to resist salt air; inland, shade and ceiling fans make summer afternoons comfortable.

How to prepare

Think about how you'll use the space: dining, cooking, lounging, kids or entertaining. Note where you'd like outlets, lighting and gas. Clear patio furniture and plan for equipment access through a side yard or gate.

FAQ

OUTDOOR LIVING FAQS

Do patio covers need a permit?

Many do. We'll check your city's rules and handle the permit when one is needed.

Can you build an outdoor kitchen?

Yes, including the base, counters and utility runs.

Can you do the whole backyard?

Yes: pavers, turf, patio cover and outdoor kitchen, under one contract.

Aluminum or wood patio cover?

Aluminum covers need little maintenance and resist rot and termites. Wood offers a classic look but needs periodic sealing or paint. Both can be built solid for full shade or open for filtered light.

What appliances work best in an outdoor kitchen near the coast?

Outdoor-rated appliances and hardware made for exposure. Near the ocean, salt air corrodes metal faster, so higher-grade stainless steel and covers help them last.

Is the assessment really free?

Yes. There's no cost and no obligation to hire us.

Do you offer financing?

Ask us at your assessment and we'll walk you through the options available for your project. Financing is subject to credit approval.
