WHY IT MATTERS

SIGNS IT'S TIME TO REPLACE YOUR SYSTEM

  • Rising energy bills

A system working harder than it should often shows up on the bill first.

  • Uneven temperatures

Rooms that never feel right can point to the system or the ducts.

  • Frequent repairs or an older system

Frequent repairs or a system that's 15+ years old are common signs it's time to look at replacement.

HOMEOWNER GUIDE

PLANNING YOUR HVAC PROJECT

What affects the cost of a new system

The type of equipment and its efficiency rating set the baseline. From there, the condition of the ductwork, whether the electrical panel can handle the new load, where the indoor unit sits (attic, closet or garage) and how easy it is to reach all shape the scope. Replacing a system in the same location with sound ducts is the simplest case; moving equipment or adding ducts adds work.

Equipment options

A split system pairs an outdoor AC or heat pump with an indoor furnace or air handler. Heat pumps provide both heating and cooling and are increasingly common in California. Ductless mini-splits work well for rooms the main system never reaches. Newer equipment uses lower-impact refrigerants under federal rules, so parts and refrigerant for older systems are getting harder to source.

Permits, Title 24 and duct testing

Replacing a heating or cooling system normally requires a permit. California's Title 24 energy rules apply to system changeouts, and in many cases the ductwork must be tested for leakage and sealed, with third-party verification, before the job is finaled. That testing often finds leaks that were wasting cooled air for years.

Climate considerations

Coastal Orange County homes need far less cooling than inland neighborhoods that see hot summer afternoons, so the right system differs by location. Near the ocean, salt air corrodes outdoor coils and cabinets faster, which affects where the condenser sits and how it's protected. Attic ducts in summer heat lose efficiency when they're leaky or poorly insulated.

How to prepare

Clear a path to the attic access, the indoor unit and the outdoor unit. Note rooms that run too hot or too cold and roughly how old the current system is. Installation typically takes one to a few days, depending on whether ducts are replaced.

FAQ

HVAC FAQS

How do I know my system needs replacing?

Rising energy bills, uneven temperatures, frequent repairs or a system that's 15+ years old are common signs.

Do you replace ductwork?

Yes, when the existing ducts are damaged, leaking or undersized for the new system.

Do you handle permits and inspections for a new system?

Yes, where the work requires them. Permit fees are listed in your estimate.

What size system do I need?

It depends on the home, not just the square footage. Insulation, windows, sun exposure and ductwork all change the load. We size the system to the house rather than simply matching the old unit.

Should I consider a heat pump?

Many homes are good candidates. A heat pump heats and cools with one outdoor unit and suits Southern California's mild winters. We'll compare it with an AC and furnace setup for your home.

Is the assessment really free?

Yes. There's no cost and no obligation to hire us.

Do you offer financing?

Ask us at your assessment and we'll walk you through the options available for your project. Financing is subject to credit approval.
