HOMEOWNER GUIDE

PLANNING YOUR KITCHEN REMODELING PROJECT

What affects the cost of a kitchen remodel

The biggest variables are layout, cabinets and countertops. Keeping the sink, range and refrigerator in place is the simplest path; moving them means new plumbing, gas or electrical runs. Removing a wall can require a beam and engineering. Cabinet grade, countertop material, appliance package, lighting and the amount of tile all shape the budget, as does whether the electrical panel can handle new appliances.

Cabinets and countertops compared

Stock cabinets come in set sizes and are the quickest to get. Semi-custom cabinets offer more sizes and finishes. Custom cabinets are built to fit your space exactly and take longer to make. For countertops, quartz is low-maintenance, natural stone offers one-of-a-kind patterns, and porcelain slabs are thin, hard and heat-resistant. Your estimate lists every open selection.

Permits and California energy rules

Moving walls, plumbing, gas or electrical requires permits and inspections. California's Title 24 energy code sets efficiency rules for kitchen lighting, and the electrical code requires dedicated circuits for certain appliances and GFCI protection for countertop outlets. Older homes often need wiring updates once walls are open.

Timeline factors

Cabinet lead times often set the schedule, so ordering early matters. Countertops are measured after the cabinets are installed and fabricated afterward, which adds a gap. Inspections, special-order appliances and changes made mid-project are the other common causes of delay.

How to prepare

Set up a temporary kitchen elsewhere in the house with a microwave, a coffee maker and the refrigerator if it can be moved. Empty the cabinets and pantry before demolition. Many Orange County families plan easy meals and outdoor cooking for the weeks without a kitchen. Decide on flooring early, since it usually goes in before the cabinets.

FAQ

KITCHEN FAQS

How much does a kitchen remodel cost?

It depends on layout, cabinets, countertops and appliances. We give you a detailed written estimate after the consultation.

Can you move walls or plumbing?

Yes, where the structure and permits allow. We'll tell you what's involved.

How long will I be without a kitchen?

It depends on the scope. We'll give you a time range up front and a schedule once work starts.

Which countertop material should I choose?

Quartz is popular for low upkeep and consistent color. Granite and quartzite are natural stone with unique patterns. Porcelain slabs resist heat and stains. We'll go over how each fits the way you cook.

Can I switch from gas to an induction cooktop?

Usually, yes. Induction needs a dedicated electrical circuit, and some homes need a panel upgrade first. We check your panel during the consultation.

Is the assessment really free?

Do you offer financing?
